Indicated is a walled graveyard on a Monaghan rise where the oldest visible stones appeared around 1750, even though a medieval church may have stood there before memory failed. The valley drops north of the walls like water leaving a basin, carrying breath and rain away from the dead. People may have chosen the height because it kept the living world at a distance, giving the departed a clear view of the sky they could no longer touch.

Situated on a rise overlooking an E-W valley just to the N. The site of the parish church of Aughnamulen (MO023-011001-) is within a roughly subrectangular graveyard (dims c. 50m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SE) defined by masonry walls, which has headstones dating from c. 1750, but there is no evidence of the medieval church.
