Man-made underground passage in Cahermakerrila

In the NE sector of a hut site (CL009-001004-). Heavily overgrown with grass, its now-roofless passage (L 3m E–W; Wth 0.9m; D 0.4m) opens at E into a circular depression (1.7m N–S; 1.6m E–W; D 0.6m). Several large stones (L c. 0.7m; Wth 0.5m; T 0.4m) are visible within the Man-made underground passage. Westropp (1915, 52) described it as follows: ‘At the north-east part of [the hut site’s] garth is a well-built sunken and circular cell, of smaller stones, and 6 feet inside, with a door to the west, the jambs 2 feet thick; thence runs a curved passage 12 feet long and 3 to 4 feet wide, running under the outer wall at its north point.
