What is recorded here

Mahanagh once held four standing stones, but the westernmost has vanished from its exact spot. It rose ninety centimetres above the ground and measured over three metres around, large enough to mark a boundary or gather people before it disappeared. The landowner still points to the empty earth where it stood, preserving the shape of what is no longer visible.

This is one of four 'dallans' (CO016-242----, CO016-243----, CO016-244----) recorded by Bowman (2000, 181) in 'Mr. O'Reilly's' in Mahanagh townland. Bowman (ibid.) describes this stone as '(d) about 400 yards [366m] west of (a). 3' [0.91m] high. 11' 2" [3.4m] in girth.'. The location of this stone was pointed out by the present landowner. The stone was removed from this location in recent times. It may be a stone that now lies near the N boundary of this field.
