What is recorded here
Sixteen clear cupmarks dot a smooth outcrop in Magheranaul, County Donegal, beside another known rock art site. Van Hoek recorded the marks in 1987 but found no ringmarks, leaving the purpose of the dots unresolved. Perhaps someone struck the stone repeatedly during a storm, tested a tool, or marked a boundary for a herd. The absence of rings makes the repetition more striking, as if the maker wanted small points rather than a drawn shape.
Described by Van Hoek as 'Next to DON 11C (DG004-063002-) is a large smooth outcrop with at least sixteen clear cupmarks. No ringmarks could be seen' (Van Hoek 1987, 30).
