Bullaun stone in Loughkent Lower

Inserted in the top of the W wall (H 0.87m above ground level) of a graveyard (TS069-062001-), towards the S end, which is enclosing a medieval church (TS069-062----). A limestone boulder (dims. 0.48m x 0.2m x 0.27m) with two hollows. One hollow appears on the upper surface (diam. 0.12m; D 0.075m) and the other on the underside (diam. 0.12m; D 0.075m). Likely dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water, and is often associated with Christian or pre-Christian sacred sites.
