What is recorded here

Lisnawully is a man-made underground passage in County Louth, Ireland, not a random hole or abandoned tool box. Local tradition places the passage in fields beside the old golf links, where hidden depth and open sky share one border. People may have dug it to move through rain, hide goods, reach water or simply belong somewhere others could not follow.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
