What is recorded here
Lisnambrock is a subcircular earthen ringfort in County Cork pasture, clinging to the sharp drop above the Comeenatrush River. Its steep western arc uses the river valley as a natural wall, while a five-metre eastern gap admits whoever dares approach. Inside, a raised central area and a hidden underground passage suggest the fort was built to confuse, exclude, or preserve something the river cannot take.
In pasture, on edge of sharp drop to Comeenatrush River. Subcircular raised area (40.5m E-W; 38m N-S) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.4m; ext. H 2.1m) NE->NW, with external fosse (D 0.5m); arc formed by steep drop down to river NW->NE. Entrance (Wth 5m) to ENE. Field boundary defines outer edge of fosse. Almost immediately inside defences, central area of interior raised; surface level; Man-made underground passage (CO048-006002-) in S half.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Lisnambrock is a subcircular early-medieval ringfort, likely dating to between the 6th and 10th centuries, situated on the Curragh in Muskerry West. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy lore, and it may have been considered a dwelling place of the "good people" in folklore.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
