Lisnagreeve fort — Report the wrong picture

Lisnagreeve is a fairy fort on a Monaghan summit, a circular grass ring thirty-one metres across where an overgrown earth bank meets a sharp rock scarp. The name suggests the boundary belongs to unseen residents rather than human farmers, inviting wonder about what still occupies the ridge. Machinery now forces gaps through the ancient wall, treating the sacred circle as ordinary ground while the local story preserves its strange ownership.

Situated on a local summit at the S end of a NNW-SSE ridge. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 31m NNW-SSE; 28.8m ENE-WSWW) with rock outcrop defined by an overgrown earth and stone bank (at WNW: Wth of base 4.5m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.6m) WNW-E-S and a scarp elsewhere (at SW: H 2.3m). There is no visible fosse but the bank is surrounded by a modern earth and stone wall NW-E-S and a farm lane skirts the base of the scarp S-W. There are gaps at NW and SSE used by machinery. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
