White Rath hides a vanished circular fort on a Monaghan ridge, visible only through memory and a rare 1834 map. The land still carries the shape of a boundary, even if pasture has swallowed the bank. A place can disappear from sight and continue to hold the lives that turned it into a fort.

Located on a slight shelf just off the crest of an ENE-WSW ridge on the SE side in an area known as ‘White Rath’. A circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m) is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. No archaeological feature is visible now in pasture, but slight traces of a fosse were detectable in 1942 (SMR file).
