Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort on the east shoulder of a Cavan drumlin, marked only as Fort on mid-Victorian maps while the ground itself has erased every ridge and ditch. It may be a trap for walkers who trust paper over soil, or a gift for those who stop pretending the landscape must make sense.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on the E shoulder of a drumlin ridge. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
