Structure

An irregular deposit (Wth 1.75m; D 0.25m) of predominantly light brushwood in opposing drain faces. The elements do not form a coherent structure. To the W, the wood appears to lie at a lower level and it is possible that all pieces are not contemporary. Two pieces have metal-cut toolmarks. Wood species include hazel, birch, oak and Pomoideae. The site lies in well-humified Sphagnum peat. It is the most N of thirteen sites in close proximity in a 30m stretch of this drain whose relationship is unclear, including SMR OF015-245---- and SMR OF015-244---- c. 0.2m and c. 2.2m, respectively, from the SE end of this site at the same level. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
