Structure

A dispersed band (Wth 2.8m; D 0.55m) of light brushwood in the drain face. The pieces are irregularly laid and do not form a coherent structure. Two roundwoods are also noted at the drain base but their relationship to the brushwood is unclear. Wood species include birch, alder, oak and willow. The site traverses a number of peat strata which suggests that the individual pieces are not contemporary. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
