Structure

A band (Wth 1.79m; D 0.23m) of light brushwood in opposing drain faces. The brushwood is up to three pieces deep but is dispersed and irregularly deposited. The wood appears to be slightly more compact towards the centre of the site but structural evidence cannot be discerned. Only one toolmark is recorded. Wood species are predominantly of willow, with birch and ash also recorded. The surrounding peat consists of moderately humified Sphagnum peat. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
