What is recorded here
Indicated is an abandoned fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland. The ruined earth bank still marks an oval space where people may have lived before the field fence cut through the middle. It is the kind of place that stops a person listening, because the boundary is broken but the shape remains.
In pasture, on gentle E-facing slope. Oval-shaped area (21m N-S; 26m E-W), enclosed by ruinous earthen bank (H 0.3m) SW to N; levelled in most of the W. Stone field fence bisects site, N to S.
The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 183.
