What is recorded here
Knocklong West holds two rectangular platforms stacked north and south inside a forgotten ditch, yet cattle and plough have erased most of the shape. Westropp measured the surviving ridges in 1917, describing a curious fort where one platform reached seven feet high and the other stretched more than fifty feet. The northern edge has levelled into the pasture, but the southern line still resists forgetting. What was lost is not nothing; it is the part the land kept private.
In reclaimed pasture 30m NE of a ringfort (LI040-081----). No surface remains visible of earthwork or platform that was attached to the N side of a possible moated site (LI040-082001-). Westropp (1917-19, 174) described this 'platform ringfort' as; ‘a curious platform fort that consists of two rectangular platforms, in line, north and south, 5 feet [1.5m] to 6 feet [1.8m] high and 66 feet [20m] wide, within a fosse 12 feet [3.6m] wide, now nearly filled; the two divisions had banks round the tops and have a fosse 12 feet [3.6m] wide between. The northern is 70 feet [21m] long and much levelled to the north-west. The southern is 54 feet [16.5m] long. The N platform is only visible as a rectangular-shaped area defined by a fosse oblique aerial photograph taken 20/07/1968 (CUCAP AVT028). Listed by Barry (1981, 84) as a moated site (No. 27).
