Killygar holds a submerged mound twenty metres wide near the northern shore of Kilnamar Lough. A saddle quern recovered from the site now rests in Killegar House, suggesting people once stood where water now covers the ground. The mound resists aerial detection and precise mapping, preserving the crannog as a half-remembered room beneath the lake.

Located close to the shore at the N end of Kilnamar Lough, a subrectangular lake (dims c. 650m NE-SW: c. 18m NW-SE at NE to c. 350m NW-SE at SW). This is a submerged mound (diam. c. 20m) with no visible evidence that it is artificially constructed. However, a saddle quern, which is now kept at a Killegar House, was found on it. The crannog does not appear on any aerial images and its precise location is not known. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J.
