What is recorded here

Situated at the base of a W-facing slope on the margin of a small bog. A subcircular pit (diam. 1.8m D 0.55m) discovered during the mechanical removal of a modern farm track. It contained several layers of decayed sandstone, fire-cracked sandstone and charcoal-rich sandy clays sealed by a layer of charcoal and silty clay loam. Charcoal from the pit was dated to AD 660-880. (Stevens 2000, 198) Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
