Standing stone in Killavoy

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Killavoy holds a forgotten standing stone, four feet six inches high and ten feet three inches around, once set on P. O'Riordan's land. It is gone from modern sight, but its dimensions remain sharp enough to build in your mind's eye. A stone that large did not appear by accident; someone chose that spot, lifted that weight, and left a marker for people who are no longer named.
Bowman (1934, 225) recorded standing stone '...4ft 6in high, by 10ft 3in girth' on P. O'Riordan's land. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
