Structure

A radially split oak plank in opposing drain faces (L 0.48m; Wth 0.18m; D 0.062m). The plank has a possible mortice and faint toolmarks on one of its surfaces. It is situated in well-humified fen peat with a lot of Phragmites and Menyanthes seeds. The site may be a disturbed togher or one of a number of isolated plank sites which occur frequently in this bog and whose associations are ambiguous. SMR OF007-154----, an isolated plank, is located 5m to the N. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1997. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
