Billy O'Brien of Kilfinnane saw the tapering stone before others because he knew which field breathes when the Loobagh rises. The rectangular marker still stands on a low rise beside pasture, near a barrow and burial mound, as if reminding people that the dead and the living share the same ground.

Probably dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly linked to nearby burial mounds. Such stones are often associated with ceremonial practices or markers for early burial sites.
