Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a fairy fort on the east shoulder of a Cavan drumlin ridge, marked on maps before a house and garden buried its ring. It vanished from human sight but never stopped occupying the land, waiting for dreams, fever-heat or forgotten footsteps to reveal its shape. The dwelling sits upon an old boundary between worlds, its roots drinking from what the soil still remembers.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on the E shoulder of a drumlin ridge. Site is now occupied by a modern dwelling-house and garden. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
