What is recorded here

The Civil Survey (1654-6) refers to 'a good thatcht house' on the lands of 'Richard Butler fitz Wm. of Polkerry Esqr Irish Papist' (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 281). There is also a description of the Parish of Temple Ethny with the 'stone house of Ballyboe' (ibid., 279). The Big House in the townland is a typical Georgian residence with no visible evidence of an earlier building having been incorporated. The house is unlocated within the townland.
