Enclosure in Hoardstown — Report the wrong picture

Hoardstown holds a forgotten circular fort on a steep slope beside Slieve Breagh, large enough for a small household but so faded that two bushes barely mark its edge. Men with surveying instruments caught its ghost in 1836, drawing a line around what memory or soil still revealed. The land has swallowed the rest, leaving behind a hidden room where people may have watched the valley or kept what they valued from others.

Situated towards the top of a N-facing slope and almost on the col between Slieve Breagh and another hill to the E. A small circular feature (diam. c. 23m) is lightly indicated on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is annotated as a ‘Fort’. Two bushes might mark the W edge of a small earthwork enclosure of which there is no other visible evidence.
