What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1903, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of roughcast piers having "pear drop" finial-topped cut-granite capping supporting spear head-detailed cast-iron double gates with roughcast outer piers having "pear drop" finial-topped cut-granite capping. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Hayestown House.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Hayestown House estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the later nineteenth century.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
