One rabbit warren in Greatconnell still hides inside the old abbey lands, though no exact hole or fence line has survived to mark it. The Augustinian priory gave the townland its shape after Meyler Fitzhenry founded it in 1202, and rabbits may have run beneath that sacred ground ever since. A warren kept for eating or guarding would have suited such a place, but the true border has vanished. What remains is a small absence: a name in a survey, a field with no marker, and the likelihood that the abbey once fed itself from the dark tunnels below.

Augustinian Abbey/Priory (KD023-016----) founded in 1202 by Meyler Fitzhenry and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St David (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 154, 177). The precise location of 'one Cunnyburrow' [Rabbit Warren] listed in the 1654-56 Civil Survey of Co. Kildare (Simington 1952, 129) has not been identified in the townland of Greatconnell.
