What is recorded here
Megalithic Structures was an unclassified gallery tomb in County Louth, Ireland, measuring about six metres long and two metres wide. Five stones marked its walls, three at the east end and two at the west, forming a narrow chamber for the dead. The tomb disappeared between 1959 and 1964, erasing a place where ancient people may have gathered to honour those they lost.
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

This unclassified tomb was destroyed between 1959 and 1964. Corcoran's plan (PPS 1960, fig. 9) indicates a gallery, orientated NW-SE, about 6m long and 2m wide. These measurements correspond with those in the OS Memoranda for County Louth (1939, A/96a/134). The gallery walls were represented by two stones at the W and three at the E.
Megalithic Structures, Grange Irish are likely portal dolmens dating to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). These structures are significant as they represent early communal burial practices and megalithic architecture in Ireland.
This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
