What is recorded here

Indicated is a subcircular cashel on the S-facing slopes of a rocky hill in County Clare, Ireland. Its internally and externally faced wall stands 0.3 to 2m high with a 2m gap at the west, probably the original entrance. The interior slopes gently south and holds several spreads and piles of stones that may conceal features. A larger cashel sits about 70m to the north.

On the S-facing slopes of a rocky hill with views from E to SSW. Indicated on the 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). A subcircular cashel (19.2m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by an internally and externally faced wall (Wth 1.9m; int. H 0.3-2m; ext. H 0.3-1.9m) with a gap (Wth 2m) at W which is probably the original entrance. The interior slopes very gently to the S and contains several spreads and piles of stones, which may conceal features. A subcircular fairy fort (ringfort/rath) likely dating to the early medieval period, indicated on the 1916 OS 6-inch map and described as an 'Enclosure' in the 1996 RMP. Local tradition may associate it with protective or otherworldly significance, as suggested by its cashel-like features and hilltop location.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
