Graveslab in Gowran

Lying on the floor in the NW angle of a 19th-century C of I church which was built on the former chancel of the 13th-century church of St Mary’s (KK020-060006-) in Gowran. A tapering slab (L 1.83m; total Wth towards top 0.57m; total Wth at base 0.42; surface Wth towards top 0.48m; surface Wth at base 0.33m; D 0.12m) which is cracked across the slab towards the base. There are has been some damage to the upper dexter side consisting of a number of small circular depressions and random incised lines. The head of the slab is missing. It is decorated with an incised cross, a fleur-de-lis at the top of the cross-shaft is probably the lower arm of the cross-head. The shaft terminates in a large fleur-de-lis. The upper edge of the sides and base of the slab has a slightly hollow chamfered (Wth 0.-6-0.07m). Stylistically this dates to the 13th/14th century.
