Excavation in County Kilkenny uncovered town defences, pits, ditches and medieval pottery beneath a proposed housing development. Instead of erasing that history, raft foundations carried the new houses across it, letting the old markers remain whole beneath modern life. The site became a quiet layer cake: bedrooms above, defences below, and human time folding instead of breaking.

Testing was carried out in 2004 at the site of a proposed housing development (Excavation licence no. 04E0201). Portion of the town defences (KK020-060003-) were uncovered at the N end of the development. A number of other archaeological features were also uncovered including pits, ditches and medieval pottery. The features were preserved in situ by the utilisation of raft foundations for the houses.
