Fulacht fia in Gort An Acra

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Gort An Acra holds a grass-covered spread of burnt material where people heated water or cooked food before the pasture swallowed the marks. The site remains in County Cork, preserved under grass rather than stone, inviting imagination about the steam, noise and purpose that once filled the air.
In pasture. Grass-covered spread of burnt material; extent not determined. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
