Fairy fort in Glear, County Monaghan: a shallow earthen ring on a drumlin crest, with a broad eastern gap and faint outer ditches. People may have stood there in rain or festival, marking territory, keeping stock, or pretending the land belonged elsewhere. The names give it back to fairy trickery; the shape keeps the human part intact.

Located at the crest of the SE-facing slope of a drumlin. This is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 33m NW-SE; 29m NE-SW) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1.5-2.4m) and hedge that is reduced to a scarp SSE-WNW, with an outer fosse (Wth c. 1.5-1.8m) SW-N-E and an outer bank or field bank (ext. H 0.3-0.9m) W-NW. There is an entrance (Wth of top 4.6m) at E. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
