What is recorded here

Fairy forts are human places misnamed, often by people who would rather not remember the hands that built them. In Garraun North a thirty-eight-metre earthen ring stands on a south-facing slope, its bank and shallow ditch still drawing a pale line through barley. That is enough to picture the cut stones, carried soil, dropped tools and the household noise now absent. The fairies may have taken the story, but the field still keeps the shape of the people who made it.

In tillage, on S-facing slope. Circular raised area (38m NW-SE) defined by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.4m) SE->NW, with shallow external fosse. Outline of levelled bank and fosse clearly visible NW->SE as cropmarks in field of barley. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
