What is recorded here
Garraun held a sprawling maze of curved fields and rectangular houses that vanished when modern farming reclaimed the land. Aerial cameras caught the ghost layout in 1970, revealing small irregular patches where people once grew food beside three ringforts. The absence of coherent geometry suggests adaptive living rather than rigid planning, perhaps stretching across neighbouring townlands. What is lost remains measurable: four hundred fifty metres of human intention buried beneath grass.
In undulating grassland. An extensive series of field banks, extending over an area c. 450m NW-SE by c. 300m NE-SW, were brought to light during aerial reconnaissance in July 1970 (CUCAP BDT 84). Though they do not form any coherent pattern, a number of small irregular and curvilinear fields with cultivation ridges were visible. A number of rectangular structures, possibly house sites, were also noted. Three ringforts (GA044-053----, GA044-054----and GA044-058001-) are associated. No visible surface trace survives as the area has since been reclaimed. This field system may originally have extended into the adjoining td., see GA044-056----.
