What is recorded here

G Yd is a rectangular graveyard in County Cork, Ireland, holding about 150 headstones from the 1720s around the vanished parish church of Kilcurfin. Its stone wall still encloses the place, while the church itself has reduced to fragmentary remains just east of centre. The graveyard continues in occasional use, marking it as a living boundary between memory and forgetting rather than a dead relic.
On W side of road; roughly rectangular graveyard (c. 80m NW-SE; c. 50m SW-NE) enclosed by stone wall; in occasional use. Fragmentary remains of parish church of Kilcurfin (C0075-01502-) just E of centre. According to O Buachalla and Henchion (1964, 115-6), 150 headstones in graveyard, these date from 1720s and are concentrated around S and E sides of church. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
