Cobh Cemetery

On W side of road, 1.4Km N of Cobh; large graveyard which has been much extended to W from square core (c. 70m E-W; c. 70m N-S) which is now densely overgrown and contains ruin of late 17th century C of I church (CO087-01002-). Large collection of inscribed headstones, earliest note ddating to 1698, many with a maritime connection including the mass Lusitania graves in SW corner (Power 1918, 223-4; Cassidy 1984 documents all inscriptions in graveyard). Site of ancient parish church of Clonmel (Brady 1863, vol. 2, 146-8). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
