Hot stones cracked and rained into a narrow pit, perhaps dripping water onto flesh, bread or wool before the trough collapsed under its own heat. The M1 road swallowed the hill in 2000, reducing centuries of steam and muscle to a rectangular scar measured for a report. What raged in that small vessel is gone, but stone remembers pressure long after people stop naming it.

A rectangular pit (0.9m x 1.1m; D 0.2m) filled with heat fractured stones was excavated here in 2000 prior to road construction of the M1 Motorway (Excavation Licence No. 00E0948).
