Flint, clay and memory still mark the ridge above Bonnetstown. A shallow trough and scattered ash wait beneath rough pasture, unchanged since hands first heated water there. The land keeps its small fire ritual intact, offering a glimpse of ancient domestic life untouched by time.

On an eastern ridge of the Slieve Ardagh foothills, overlooking Kilkenny City and the Nore river valley, in rough pasture. Identified during archaeological monitoring of a Bord Gáis Éireann gas pipeline development (excav. no. 99E0601) (Stevens 2000, 138). It consisted of a thin spread of ash and burnt mound material (dims. c. 11m N-S; c. 9m E-W; T 0.1m) and a small oblong trough/pit (L 1.5m; Wth 0.75m; D 0.2), bisected by a modern field boundary (ibid.). The trough/pit contained a backfill of burnt mound material of fire-cracked sandstone and silty clay (ibid.). A stake-hole was found 0.37m to the SE of this trough/pit (ibid.).
