What is recorded here
No visible castle stands at Friarstown today, yet the ground still holds the shape of one. A D-shaped enclosure about fifty metres across, cut by two fosses, rings the tower house in aerial imagery, with rectangular enclosures and a probable moated field stretching to the southwest. The castle did not vanish so much as sink beneath soil, seed and time, waiting for rain or drought to draw its lines again.
Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 41-45) show extensive cropmarks including D-shaped enclosure (est. diam. c. 50m) with two fosses, within which tower house stands (CW008-018002-), and rectangular enclosures, probably moated site with attached field (CW008-054----) to SW.

Friarstown Castle is a ruined tower house situated within the remains of an early-medieval ringfort, indicated by a D-shaped enclosure and double fosse visible in aerial photographs. Local tradition may associate the site with both ancient Irish settlement and later Norman or Gaelic lordly occupation, though specific folklore is not widely recorded.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
