Gallán stood five feet high with an eleven-foot girth in Mid Cork, a five-ton anchor of ancient presence that resisted every attempt to measure or remove it until fence clearance finally swallowed it in 1983. It never appeared on official maps, suggesting the land kept its own secret ledger while human institutions forgot the stone entirely. The sudden loss reveals how much living memory depends on invisible structures we take for granted until they vanish.

Not shown on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. Permission to visit site refused. According to local information, removed c. 1983 during field fence clearance. Broker (1937, 31) recorded 'gallán, 5ft high and over 11ft in girth; 5 ton weight overground'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
