Fairy forts are often misnamed; these are human ringforts, circular defences built and lived in during the medieval period. In Rossacon, a single-ramparted fort measured about thirty-four yards across before ploughing and development levelled it into ordinary ground. The fairy label comes later, a folk wrapper around forgotten human life, yet the shape and purpose were genuinely human: a boundary, a home, a place to stand together when danger came.

Bowman (1934, 184) recorded levelled, single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 34yd) on land of S. Winters. Exact location not known.
