What is recorded here

Twenty-two metres of packed earth still stand on the west-facing slope in Lissindragan, though the east half has surrendered to time and pasture. Two banks and a central ditch mark the boundary of a small, defensible world, large enough for a household but narrow enough to feel like a clenched fist. The depression inside suggests later quarrying, reminding the viewer that the fort has been taken apart as often as it was built.

On a W-facing slope in otherwise level pastureland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 239, no. 23) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 22m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse; only the W half was in ‘fair condition’. The inner bank (max. Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.3m), fosse (Wth 1.9m) and outer bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.3m) are still clearly visible from S through W to N but the E half is badly denuded. A depression noted in the interior by McCaffrey (ibid.) appears to be the result of quarrying. A NNW-SSE field boundary runs to the E of the monument.
