What is recorded here

Lackenroe is called a fairy fort because people believed fairies lived there, but it is an earthen ringfort from before written history. It stood on the crest of a ridge in County Cork, large enough for a household and strong enough to keep out trouble. Farming and ploughing flattened most of the wall, yet a shallow circle still marks the place where people lived, defended themselves and left the ridge changed. The fairies may be a story told later, but the human hands that built the fort are certain.
