Cill na Cluana, the Church of the Sequestered Place, hides in a marshy fold beside a stream in County Cork. A low rectangular platform of scarped earth still holds scattered stones, including one buried in a depression that may mark a forgotten grave. Double arcs of upright stones at the north-west corner hint at an early oratory, while the surrounding wet darkness suggests the community deliberately chose seclusion rather than visibility.

In marshy area, on W side of stream. Scarped-up rectangular platform (max. H 0.5m; 6m N-S; 5.5m E-W); scatter of large stones on platform, one in depression which could be collapsed grave. At NW corner of platform double arc of stones set on edge; exact nature unclear but might be feature described by Power (1918, 187) as 'foundations of a building presumably an early church or oratory type... measuring 18 feet by 9 feet'. According to Power (ibid.), site of 'Cill na Cluana - Church of the Sequestered Place'. Power locates site in Killacloyne townland, but OS 6-inch map shows it just inside Ballinbrittig.
