Fairy forts in Gortnagross are not true forts but abandoned farmsteads misread through fear. The earthen bank stands 1.75 metres high around a clear central yard, marking a household that stopped maintaining its own boundary. People stopped entering because the work of living there had already stopped. What remains is the shape of that withdrawal: a complete circle waiting for someone to stop pretending it belongs to fairy tales.

In pasture, on gentle NW-facing slope. Roughly circular area (internal diam. 36m N-S) enclosed by overgrown, earthen bank (int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.75m). Interior raised and mainly clear of overgrowth; E side truncated by trackway. Break (Wth 2.8m) in bank to W.
