Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumnagrella

Located towards the E end of an E-W drumlin ridge. This rath is marked on McCrea’s map of Co. Monaghan (1793). This is an oval grass-covered area (43m WNW-ESE; 32.2m NNE-SSW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth of base 2m at ESE to 4.4m at WNW; int. H 0.3-0.4m; ext. H 0.9m at ESE to 1.2m at WNW) with some bushes. There is no visible fosse, but there is a NW-SE field bank outside the perimeter NE-ESE. There is a gap in the perimeter at WSW but the original entrance is probably at ESE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
