Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corcuilloge

Situated on a rise at the S edge of a shelf overlooking the triangular Spring Lough (dims c. 540m NNE-SSW; 275m NW-SE at SW), about 230m from the NW shore. This is a subcircular grass-covered area (int. dims 37m N-S; 33m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at NE: Wth of base 2m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.65m), which has probably been modified. There is no visible fosse but there is an entrance (Wth of base 1.8m) at NW leading to farm buildings. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
