Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloustoge

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and the unknown woman arrived at Cloustoge after a long walk. They sat inside the earthen ring, ate bread and drink, and watched the sky darken. Marianne later told her sister the woman had no shadow and left before midnight. The fort still stands in rough grazing, but that meeting belongs to memory rather than fact.
In rough grazing. Circular area (26m N-S; 24m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.1m). Bank heavily overgrown; interior partially covered in ferns. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
