Fairy forts are not for entry, only for life lived alongside them. Ballyroe West is a rare exception: a place where the boundary is still visible, not invented. The circular area is not small, not hidden, not vague. It is a defined space on a hill slope, with a scarped edge that can be measured and walked. That is why it is interesting. The fairies may never have existed in the human sense, but the place exists in a way that does not need belief to be recorded.

In pasture, on NNW-facing hill slope. Monument, depicted as circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 30m) clipped by field boundary at NE on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled and incorporated into pasture field. However, it is now evident as a circular area (29.8m N-S; 29.7m E-W) defined by scarped edge NW->NNE and E->S. Scarp (H 0.9m; Wth 10m) is best preserved at NW.
