Mature trees cling to the earthen bank in Ballyneety, shading a circular enclosure where cattle still graze. The earth rises two metres on the outside but drops to knee height inside, creating a steep trap for anyone charging in blindly. Local people call it a fairy fort, suggesting the boundaries belong to tenants who never left. Human hands may have built the rampart for protection, but the fairies took it over and kept it private.

In pasture, on gentle SE-facing slope. Roughly circular area (49.2m N-S; 48.8m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.55m; ext. H 2.45m) SSE->E, with external fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 2.1m) N->ESE. Bank partially removed E->SSE creating scarped edge (H 1.75m; Wth 5.35m). Interior, under pasture, slopes gently down to SE. Mature trees grow along bank S->E. Site is contained within a small field; dry-stone boundary wall skirts around enclosure SSW->NW. Two ruinous dry-stone walls abut enclosing bank at NE and E creating small paddock area in NE corner of field. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
