Venables Fort lost most of its shape when people cut turf and laid fields across Crocknageena Hill, leaving only a southwest curve of ditch in the bogland. What remained was enough to mark the hill as a place where people had drawn a line around themselves, perhaps for storage, shelter or pride. The missing parts do not disappear from the story; they show how quickly ordinary life can erase the shapes that once held it.

Very little survives of 'Venables Fort' except the SW quadrant of a fosse. Destroyed by laying out new fields and turf cutting. It is situated on top of Crocknageena Hill in bogland.
